Barite is kind of raw material to produce barium and barium compounds, mainly for the producing of barite powder and lithopone. The main composition of barite is BaSO₄with its molecular weight of 233.39 and density of 4.1-4.6g/cm³. It is kind of white rhomboidal and non-metal mineral. Pure barite is white with luster. It will be grey, pale red, light yellow because of some Impurities or mixture. High-quality barite is transparent crystal and is kind of chemical material and mass.

Density of barite is big than that of gangue( Barite is 4.0-4.6g/cm³while that of gangue is 2.2-2.6g/cm³) and the density difference makes gravity separation good separation efficiency for barite ore. The gravity separation machines involved is mainly jigger.

There is a limitation for the feeding size of the jigger, so crushing needs suitable crushers. Jaw crusher is always chosen while hammer crusher is not. The crushed barite granules are not even, and a vibrating screen can be used to classify the crushed barite before going to the jigger. And here jigging capacity is guaranteed while the final output size is already classified. There is much water in the output from jigger, and if the water percentage needed to be low, a dewatering screen can be needed. But usually, there is no need of dewatering screen, kind of nature drying can be ok.
